Recently, there has been an escalation in threats and attacks on nonprofits by the federal government. Due to these ongoing threats against nonprofits and their legal activities, NAM is providing additional resources for Members and Nonprofits statewide to be adequately prepared.

Federal agents raided the Ohio voting rights group Ohio Organizing Collaborative on June 11, 2026. This article describes the events that unfolded.

Federal agents from ICE and the Department of Health and Human Services conducted unannounced visits to Washington DC area nonprofits that provide legal aid to unaccompanied migrant children from June 10-12, 2026. Here is an article outlining this instance.

Resources, Legal Preparation, and Assistance for Nonprofits

The Center for Constitutional Rights has a resource titled, “If An Agent Knocks” that provides information, best practices, and advice on how to communicate with federal agents if this situation occurs.

The Center for Immigration and Refugee Advancement (CIRA) created a “Know Your Rights and Planning Guide.”

Protect Democracy has created a Nonprofit Toolkit: Resources for organization facing government investigations, offering best practices for responding to politicized government investigations.
