Professional Bio
Zedeka Poindexter (she/her) is the Executive Director of the Nebraska Writers Collective, where she leads efforts to foster personal empowerment and community through creative writing and performance poetry. A North Omaha-born writer and performer, Zedeka has been active in the spoken word community since 1998, competing nationally and mentoring the next generation of poets.
She studied Communication at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and spent two decades in the pharmaceutical industry, specializing in training, sales, and benefits management. In 2022, she transitioned to nonprofit leadership, bringing a focus on organizational growth, sustainability, and equitable access to the arts. During her tenure, she expanded the Nebraska Writers Collective Press, conducted a pay equity audit that reshaped compensation for Teaching Artists, and launched the North Omaha Writers Workshop—a six-month cohort designed to build craft and community among writers of color producing work outside of academia.
Zedeka is passionate about creating inclusive spaces where writers of all ages and backgrounds can share their stories, develop their craft, and connect with a supportive creative community.
