Organization Overview

The Food Bank of Siouxland is a nonprofit organization based in Sioux City, Iowa, dedicated to combating hunger across the Siouxland region. Established in 1991 as the Tri-State Food Bank, it became incorporated in 1991 and received its 501(c)(3) status in 1994. In July 2000, the organization was renamed the Food Bank of Siouxland, Inc. Its mission is to lead Siouxland in the fight against hunger by providing a consistent source of food to nonprofit agencies, including food pantries, homeless shelters, and meal sites.
The Food Bank serves 11 counties in the Siouxland area: Woodbury, Ida, Monona, Crawford, Plymouth, Cherokee, Sioux, and Lyon counties in Iowa; and Dakota, Thurston, and Burt counties in Nebraska. It supplies food to over 100 member agencies throughout these counties. ​
In 2022, the Food Bank distributed approximately 3.3 million pounds of food, addressing the needs of around 25,000 food-insecure individuals, 42% of whom are children. ​
Key Programs include the following: Mobile Pantry: Food to You – A mobile food pantry that brings thousands of pounds of food to host locations in underserved areas, ensuring access to nutritious food for families and individuals. BackPack Program: Food for Kids – Provides children with a sack of food placed in their backpacks on Fridays, ensuring they have meals over the weekend. ​School Mobile Pantry: Food for Families – Located on school grounds, these pantries offer a readily accessible source of food assistance to food-insecure students and their families.
