Behavioral Interviewing and Hiring

Wednesday, April 12, 9 AM - 12 PM

NAM Members: $35 | Non-yet-members: $70

No decision is more crucial to the success of an organization than the people they hire.  Behavioral-based interviews provide a hiring manager an objective set of facts to use when making employment decisions.

Attendees will learn how to:

  • Identify a candidate’s job-related experiences, behaviors, knowledge, skills, and abilities that are desirable in a particular position and determine the candidate’s potential for success.
  • Structure pointed questions to elicit detailed responses intended to determine if the candidate possesses the characteristics you’re looking for.
  • Define the desired qualities in a candidate and understand how to differentiate those from a candidate’s skills.
  • Use a structured vs. unstructured interview process.
  • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of common interviewing and hiring practices.
  • Consider federal and state law to mitigate risk during the interview process.
  • Determine the appropriate scenarios in which to use both behavioral-based and situation-based interview questions.
  • Analyze responses to behavior-based interview questions to make informed hiring decisions.

Attend if you:

  • Are involved in the hiring or interviewing of new employees.
  • Have made bad hires, even when you were certain the person was right.
  • Are looking to limit employee turnover.
