It’s an event that aims to help the Omaha community understand the issues facing the city’s refugee population – and to celebrate the city’s rich diversity.  It is free and open to the public.

It all starts at 10:00 a.m. with a parade of flags, music, a dance performance, and a naturalization ceremony.  University of Nebraska Medical Center will host a Health Fair from 11:00 a.m. – 2:15 p.m.  Lunch will be served from 11:30 – 1:00 p.m.  At 11:30 a.m., educational panels will convene, featuring stories by refugees about the political issues that prompted them to leave their homeland, and the process of how refugees come to the U.S.  (Panelists are from Iraq, Somalia, Burma, Thailand and Bhutan.)  Community members will then have an opportunity to purchase handmade items and to get information from different community agencies, children can attend a carnival, and everyone is invited to take part in sporting events.  At 2:30 p.m., there will be an awards ceremony that recognizes an outstanding OPS educator and volunteers – as well as a presentation of WRD scholarships to students.  The day concludes with a Fashion Show.
