About our trainers:

Merle Riepe, President, SOLVE

As an avid skier, Merle is well-acquainted with fresh powder and moguls. As a psychologist, Merle has faced a few ego bumps. In co-founding SOLVE, Merle saw an opportunity to help companies increase profitability through their people, based on proven psychological and leadership science. When Merle is not developing client relationships or leading a team of exceptional psychologists, he focuses his efforts on executive coaching, employee engagement and candidate assessment to ensure the right fit, from the front line to the C-Suite.

Merle has managed a wide range of projects over the last 18 years. Every project provides a new challenge and the opportunity to work with exceptionally bright people to solve a critical problem. This passion to get to the core of an issue is the driving force for the company name: SOLVE.

Merle’s knowledge of human behavior, expertise in assessment, and experience in facilitating change enable him to provide innovative, practical and principled consulting services that are crafted to meet his clients’ critical needs. Merle’s relentless commitment to a successful outcome is unparalleled. Although he is dedicated to his work, Merle makes time to hit the slopes with family and friends every year at one of his favorite ski resorts. If you see him at the lodge, feel free to strike up a conversation about moguls or egos!

Debra Manning, PhD, Senior Strategist, SOLVE:

Debra Manning, Ph.D., is a social psychologist, researcher and consultant with over 20 years of  experience in business and strategic consulting. Deb has a passion for increasing workforce diversity and  inclusion and has used her analytical talents to design and implement data-driven solutions for her clients.

After completing her doctorate from the University of Minnesota, she began her career as an academic psychologist, teaching psychology,  research methods, gender studies and human sexuality courses at the University of North Dakota.

After two years, she left to join The Gallup Organization and quickly became a subject matter expert in employee (EE) and customer engagement (CE) research and consulting, serving as the Practice Manager for Gallup’s HumanSigma consulting group, where she collaborated on the design of measurement programs, sales strategies, manager and leader training, and governance for both EE and CE programs. Manning’s clients included First National Bank, Alegent Health, Cabela’s, Boston Scientific, Saks Fifth Avenue and Qwest Communications.

Dr. Manning joined Farm Credit Services of America in 2009 as an Innovation Strategist and researcher, helping the organization advance a newly developed strategy for innovation. During her eight-year tenure, the Strategy and Innovation Team grew from two members to seven as the team’s work and  influence expanded to include companywide strategic planning, all customer innovation and research, internal research and program evaluation, and innovation pipeline analysis. Shortly before her departure, she spearheaded the development of a new customer experience strategy, including training for 1,500+ teammates across five states and implementation of newly aligned key performance metrics. During this time Deb was also a featured speaker at Walker’s National Client Summit.

In 2018, Manning returned to the classroom and to consulting. She is currently an adjunct professor at Creighton University and a Senior Strategist at SOLVE, a human capital consulting firm that helps organizations of all sizes (including for-profit, non-profit, private, state and governmental agencies) maximize the talent of their people. She leads SOLVE’s Learning and Development and Diversity and Inclusion practices.
