Meet Your Presenters:

Kim Armstrong
Kim is the Community Programs Manager with Mutual of Omaha. She has been with Mutual of Omaha since 1997, and in corporate philanthropy since 2003. Kim played a significant role in the establishment of the Mutual of Omaha Foundation in 2005. She serves as the liaison between the Foundation and grant seekers; manages their grants database and application system; reviews and assesses grant proposals; oversees the development and preparation of grant docket materials and reports; facilitates grant monitoring; reviews and evaluates grant reports; prepares and presents all requests to the Mutual of Omaha Foundation Board; reviews and remains current on issues and trends in philanthropy and the specific program areas of interest to the Foundation; and also manages various community outreach programs of the corporation. 


Liz Codina
Liz Codina serves as the Vice President for Metro Young Latino Professionals Association (MYLPA). Ms. Codina is passionate about standing up for change and serving others and her community. In her community role, Ms. Codina works to support community capacity initiatives. She has devoted her life to public service and strongly advocates for investments in underrepresented communities. Her volunteer work focuses on the empowerment of Latinos and women through education, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. In addition to her role with MYLPA, she serves as president of South Omaha Business Association. She is currently a Program Officer at Peter Kiewit Foundation.


Emma DeVos
Emma DeVos is CEO of Innovative NonProfit LLC., based in Mitchell, SD. Innovative NonProfit provides donor management and stewardship software, consulting, and educational opportunities for nonprofits and higher education organizations. Previously Emma held a number of roles in management and marketing for private and public-sector organizations in the US and UK. She is a member of AFP and CASE and serves on the Board of Mitchell Main Street and Beyond, and as a board member of the Dakota Dreamers Foundation.

Lisa Fox           
Lisa Fox is the founder and owner of Fox Creek Fundraising, a grant writing and fundraising consulting company located in Carson, Iowa. Lisa holds a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, a Bachelor’s Degree from Simpson College, and 17 years of social service and nonprofit management experience. In 2014, Lisa saw the growing need for many local nonprofits to increase funding and capacity without the resources to hire a full-time grant writer. Lisa founded Fox Creek Fundraising to serve these nonprofits, which has since grown into a full-service development consulting company. Along with her team, Lisa partners with nonprofits to provide fundraising consulting, grant research and development, graphic design and marketing. Her background, leadership, and strong team has assisted agencies in securing more than 6.2 million dollars in 2018. It is through vision, relationships, hard work, and perseverance that Lisa and her team have gained recognition and praise from both high profile nonprofits and foundations across Iowa and Nebraska.

December Lange Treacy
December Lange Treacy (pronounced di-SEM-ber LANG TRAY-see) is the Assistant Project Director and Program Evaluator for the Support and Training for the Evaluation of Programs (STEPs) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In her work, December partners with government and nonprofit agencies on projects related to sexual violence prevention, drug overdose prevention, and international education, among others. December earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Kansas State University in May 2014, and her Master of Science in Administrative Leadership with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in May 2016.

Heather Loughman
Heather Loughman, Communications and Development Director at Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties in Lincoln, has a master's in Rhetoric and Technical Communication from Michigan Technological University and is a graduate of Leadership Lincoln Fellows XXXIV. She has been writing grant proposals to public and private funding entities for nine years, resulting in the receipt of millions of dollars annually. In her spare time, Heather enjoys planning Disney vacations, spending time with her dogs and husband, and traveling!

Shane Pekny
Shane Pekny is a Senior Grant Writer at Vic Gutman & Associates. Previously, he worked for Habitat for Humanity, Goodwill Industries, the University of Nebraska Omaha, and Boys Town. He has managed volunteers, trained high school dropouts in construction, and taught English composition. He currently serves as a member of the Bennington, Nebraska, City Council. He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in English. His creative nonfiction has appeared in Nebraska Life, Vox, and at

Dan Prater
Dan is the Senior Managing Consultant at BKD CPAs and Advisors. Dan has an extensive background in nonprofit leadership and higher education. He is the founder of the Center for Nonprofit Leadership at Drury University (Springfield, MO) and created the university's Master of Nonprofit and Civic Leadership where he continues to serve as lead instructor in the program. Dan was the board chair of Nonprofit Missouri, the statewide nonprofit association. He has a Master of Art in Communication from Drury University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Evangel University. Dan is a frequent speaker at conferences and workshops.

Mark Whitacre
Mark Whitacre, GPC, has 25 years as a grant professional. He has developed successful grant proposals for private and government grant-making organizations, resulting in $60 million in funding for schools and nonprofit organizations. Mark has presented at state and national conferences on grant proposal development strategies.
