The HRAM Diversity and Inclusion committee host yearly symposiums that focuses on diversity-related topics and strives to increase awareness for diversity-related issues among our membership and their employers.

Michaela Ahrens and Justin Dougherty, Autism Action Partnership, will present “Autism in the Workplace:  Partnership for Autism Career Employment (PACE)”.

There is currently a significant movement across the country of employers seeking to hire individuals with autism, due to their unique strengths and skill sets. This effort is leading to new and exciting opportunities for both employers and the individuals. It is also creating a need for employers (managers, coworkers, human resource professionals, etc.) to better understand what autism is, how it could affect an individual, and how it might be experienced by coworkers and/or customers. Autism Action Partnership works directly with employers to offer an array of training and services to educate and train professionals about autism and help to create an inclusive workplace for all employees. This session will offer a general overview of autism, the more common strengths an employee with autism can possess, the more common ways autism may interfere with an employees success, and basic business practices that maximize the benefits of employing an individual with autism.

This Session has been submitted for 1.5 PDCs for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP and 1.5 hours of HR credit from HRCI®.

Symposiums are smaller and less formal meetings for HRAM members and the Omaha community. It is FREE to attend; however, registration is required as seating is limited.  Please register online at  For any questions or concerns please contact Erin Crouch at
