More Information
Heartland Hope Mission’s primary program is the Homelessness and Hunger Prevention Program which is designed to help the working poor by providing food, clothing, hygiene products, and household items to individuals who do not have the financial means or social supportive services to otherwise acquire these items. As the economy continues to struggle to rebound and the cost of food continues to increase, hundreds of individuals from Omaha and the surrounding area find themselves turning to agencies that can assist them in meeting the basic needs of their families.

Heartland Hope Mission’s Homelessness and Hunger Prevention Program provides a week’s supply of food for each person registered in the household. Clients are able to choose food items from all essential food groups and food appropriate for preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner. In addition, 2-3 personal care items such as: soap, shampoo, toilet paper and toothpaste are provided. Clients are provided with the opportunity to choose one sack of clothing items per person in their household. In addition, household items are available. The pantry is open one evening, one weekday afternoon and one Saturday each week in order to meet the needs of the maximum number of people and keep costs low. We also have a satellite location in the old Millard area at 139th & Q once a month. This satellite location allows us to reach a greater percentage of individuals who, because of geographic location are unable to easily access the Mission’s South Omaha food and clothing distribution center.

Heartland Hope Mission realizes that a need for food is typically an indicator of a large need for assistance. In order to effectively assist families in need, Client Service Specialists meet with clients one-on-one to provide referrals and SNAP application assistance. This allows clients to receive the assistance they need beyond the services provided on-site. Our goal is to prevent families from become homeless and then work with those families to help them become self-sufficient. Heartland Hope Mission has a focus on job opportunities and training resources. Additionally, we offer financial classes in order to help our clients build the financial knowledge and credit base they need to move forward.
