The Urban League of Nebraska is celebrating 90 years of Empowering Communities and Changing Lives with international artist Brian McKnight! McKnight’s career spans two decades and is packed with 16 albums, selling more than 30 million copies worldwide. His latest album Genesis featuring the smash single "Forever" is out now. Doors for the concert open at 6:30 p.m.

 

During the evening, we'll recognize two community leaders with some very special awards. The Charles B. Washington Award named after the local civil rights activist, journalist and mentor will honor Willie Barney, founder and president of the Empowerment Network, for bringing awareness to issues affecting communities of color and facilitating change in North Omaha. Washington hosted the Urban League sponsored program "Omaha, Can We Do?," which aired on local NBC affiliate WOWT.

 

The Whitney M. Young Jr. Award named after the national civil rights leader will honor a leader will honor Michael Maroney, president of the Omaha Economic Development Council, for transformative economic and community development in North Omaha. Young served as president of the Urban League of Nebraska in the 1950s and led the National Urban League during the Civil Rights Movement.
