Let’s keep up the momentum to ensure Nebraska does not bring back the broken death penalty! Join Nebraskans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty at our Annual Reception and Awards Ceremony.
Christy Sheppard, a murder victim family member and advocate for death penalty abolition, will deliver the keynote speech. Sheppard’s cousin was murdered in Oklahoma in 1982. Five years later, the state convicted two men of the crime, sentencing one to life imprisonment and the other to death. Sheppard believed in the system that put these two men behind bars. Her perceptions of a just and fair system were shattered after DNA evidence proved their innocence eleven years later. Sheppard’s story illustrates the importance of our efforts to end the death penalty once and for all.
