May 14th – Trees and Tweets! It is International Migratory Bird Month and Nebraska sits in an important migratory flyway. Welcome back our hummingbirds, Baltimore Orioles, songbirds and birds of prey. After our hike, share your favorite bird website, Ap or book with others. Learn to make hummingbird food, make and take home a bird feeder with a 2 liter soda bottle. Make a “bird nest purse.” Learn why feeding (especially bread) our geese and ducks is NOT a good idea. Draw and Compare your “wingspan” to Birds wingspans. Each person attending will receive a free elderberry bush (http://acreage.unl.edu/elderberry) from Papio – Missouri NRD. If possible, please bring an empty large soda bottle and jar if you would like some hummingbird food.
