DESCRIPTION:

Your accounting software is the key to recording and classifying revenue and expenses, tracking grants, and producing financial reports for your finance committee and board, the IRS and auditors. 

 

Part 1: The Essentials (9 a.m.-1 p.m.) will cover the basics of setting up and entering transactions and provide an overview of software updates in the QuickBooks® 2015 Edition, including:

  • Setting up your accounting process flow so that it is consistent and efficient
  • Setting up the correct chart of accounts
  • Entering your programs, annual budget, and outside payroll
  • Creating reports for your board and accountant
  • Tracking your members, donors, grants, pledges, and dues

Part 2: Beyond The Essentials (1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.)

  • Reconciling your bank accounts and clearing up reconciliation differences
  • Recording in-kind contributions, auto-recording membership dues, and memorizing repeating transactions
  • Advanced budgeting and allocating expenses by grant/program
  • Deferred revenue - what is it and how to track it in QuickBooks
  • Converting your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online

 

ATTEND TRAINING IF YOU ARE:

  • Using Quickbooks DESKTOP VERSION
  • Responsible for an organization's finances or accounting (EDs, Board members, Finance Committee members, Audit Committee members)
  • Executive or Operations Director of a small organization
  • First time Executive Director
  • Already familiar with nonprofit functional accounting, grant management and net assets
  • Already have a strong working knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and concepts.  

 

Bring your own laptop with QuickBooks 2015 or QuickBooks 2014 installed.

Ali Maloy, CPA, Principal, Lone Tree Accounting

Ali is a proud graduate of the University of Kansas and has held an active CPA license since 2004. She worked in audit-based roles at KPMG (Kansas City and Chicago), Jones Lang LaSalle, Hyatt Corporation, ConAgra Foods, and Farm Credit Services of America before starting Lone Tree Accounting (formerly Maloy Accounting) in 2010.

Ali is a recent graduate of the Intuit Accountant Council, which afforded her the opportunity to provide direct input into the development of products like QuickBooks and Intuit Tax Online. She has continued to work with Intuit as a contractor and regularly writes and gives presentations at conferences around the country on Intuit’s behalf. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Launch Leadership, Inc., a non-profit that provides leadership training and development for middle and high school students.
