Complex issues abound and require productive conversations for sound and strategic decision making. Learn, observe and practice the art of powerfully productive dialogue that navigates away from debate and toward positive discussion and next steps.
Purpose: To review how the skills of good old fashioned Dialogue balance the need for both personal and professional development while addressing the cutting-edge questions faced by your organization.
Objectives: In this workshop participants will be able to
1. Practice how the technique of a Check-In Question demonstrates the elements of Dialogue.
2. Compare and contrast the difference between debate and dialogue
3. Observe an example of an effective dialogue around a complex question.
4. Review practices for asking powerful questions that move dialogue forward in organizations.
Patrick Davis, MA, is a writer, teacher and consultant offering expertise on how individuals and organizations effectively face acute change – turning periods of transition into periods of transformation. Patrick brings 30 years of practical experience from a wide-range of nonprofit roles (from volunteer through board chair) and settings (rural and urban) with a special focus on health care organizations. His work as a hospice and mental health chaplain have shaped the tools he offers leaders and teams. In 2013, Patrick was honored to be the first male recipient of the Sophia Wisdom award by a ministry of the Sisters of Mercy.
Patrick has a Masters in Adult Education and continues his learning in the areas of positive psychology, appreciative inquiry, and progressive health care approaches. Patrick is an engaging trainer that teaches the hard truth about “soft” skills necessary to be effective in today’s complicated world.
