Registration is now open for The Indie, a 10k/5k/kids’ dash set for Saturday, July 5, in the Benson-Ames Alliance.
The event, hosted by the Benson-Ames Alliance and Omaha by Design, is designed to showcase the alliance’s assets, foster new entrepreneurial growth and celebrate the independent spirit of the area’s emerging arts and entertainment culture in conjunction with the nation’s birthday.
The 10k and 5k courses are fully paved and will take runners on a scenic loop through parkland and residential areas. Each begins and ends on Maple Street in historic downtown Benson. The terrain varies and features several memorable hills.
The registration fee for the 10k and 5k, which includes a T-shirt, is $25 and $30 after June 23 (a T-shirt is not guaranteed after June 23). There is no fee for the kids’ dash, which will take place on Maple Street, but registration is required.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age category, and the overall winners will receive a cash bonus. The runner who showcases the best indie spirit will be honored, and costumes are welcome (as are Zombie entrants interested in getting in shape for the annual Zombie Walk in Benson).
Proceeds after expenses will be used for improvements to Benson Park, 7002 Military Avenue, and Fontenelle Park, 4405 Fontenelle Boulevard.
The after party will feature live music, a chance to explore the neighborhood’s arts scene and Benson Farmers Market, and opportunities to sample fare from local restaurants, coffee shops and bars.
The Indie is sponsored by Atchley Ford, the Benson Business Improvement District, The Reader and Omaha by Design. To register or volunteer, visit http://www.theindieomaha.org. For sponsorship information, contact Omaha by Design at 402.554.4011 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
