Green in the City Open House

Tuesday, Jan. 21
5:30 to 7:00pm
KANEKO, 1111 Jones St.

The public will be able to view the proposals of the five Green in the City finalist teams at an open house set for Tuesday, Jan. 21. Following the event, the proposals will be on display at KANEKO through Friday, Jan. 24, from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Green in the City, launched in September, is a national design competition to create an innovative urban community space in downtown Omaha. The site is adjacent to two projects under development in the 10th and Pacific block – the new home of the BLUEBARN Theatre and Boxcar 10, a mixed use building with a small parking area.

Min l Day, an architectural partnership with offices in Omaha and San Francisco, is designing the BLUEBARN Theatre and Boxcar 10 projects. Omaha philanthropist Nancy Mammel, the developer of Boxcar 10, has donated the land for the theatre and green space and is providing the lead gift for the Green in the City competition. Once the Green in the City project is complete, the BLUEBARN Theatre will assume ownership of the open space and will be responsible for its maintenance.

The five finalist teams are:

· DeOld Andersen Architecture (Omaha) and Project for Public Spaces (NYC)

· Design With Company (Chicago)

· Design Workshop (Aspen)

· Dlandstudio (Brooklyn)

· El Dorado Inc. (Kansas City).

The finalist teams will be interviewed by a jury of five landscape, art and design professionals, and the winning design team will be announced in the coming weeks.
