Developing Your Development
April 17, 2014

What do you need to have in place to succeed?

Take part in an active dialogue with Hillary Nather-Detisch, Director of Development at Joslyn Art Museum, that focuses on the development office essentials needed for any nonprofit organization – from a small, grassroots start-up to and organization that has been operating for years but many need to spruce up/revise policies and procedures.

This session will address development office essentials, proper tools and techniques for following up with donors, a discussion around donor cultivation versus solicitation, and fundraising ethics.

Hillary is currently employed as the Director of Development at Joslyn Art Museum, where she joined the staff in March 2014. Her job responsibilities include overseeing all fundraising and philanthropy work to collect and preserve visual arts of the highest quality as well as foster appreciation and enjoyment of art for the benefit of a diverse audience. Hillary has over thirteen years' experience professionally fundraising as well as grant making in various organizations in the Omaha community.

Hillary is committed to giving back to the community and has served on numerous nonprofit boards and committees. Currently, she is active on the following nonprofit boards: President/Chair of Inclusive Communities Board of Directors, Governance committee for The Union for Contemporary Arts, and Opera Omaha Guild Board Member. She also serves on the Filmsteams Feature Gala Event Committee. Hillary was a founding member of the Omaha Venture Group, a local young professional giving circle.

Hillary is a graduate of Omaha North High School. She earned a BA in Political Science from San Francisco State University, participated in the Museum Studies Certificate Program from Harvard University, and earned a Masters in Public Administration and Nonprofit Management from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She also attended the US Coast Guard Academy which allowed her numerous travelling opportunities throughout the world.

In 2008, she received her national Certification in Fundraising Executive (CFRE) credentials. Hillary was a 2002 Ten Outstanding Young Omahan recipient, a graduate of Leadership Omaha Class 28 and the 2009 Conference for Inclusive Communities Volunteer of the Year. Hillary re-located back to Omaha in June 2000 from the east coast, and currently resides in the Dundee area with her husband John and their seven year old daughter and twin four-year-old daughters.
