Pathways Award Luncheon

Posted By Concord Mediation Center, Thursday, May 16, 2013

COLUMNIST, LAW PROFESSOR

TO BE RECOGNIZED AT LUNCHEON

Concord Mediation Center Sets ‘Pathways Award Luncheon’ for June 14

Mike Kelly, columnist for the Omaha World-Herald, and Ronald R. Volkmer, Professor of Law at Creighton University, will be honored at the 2013 Concord Mediation Center’s Pathways Award Luncheon. This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 14, at Happy Hollow Country Club in Omaha.

The luncheon will recognize those in the community who embody the non-profit organization’s mission: Concord Mediation Center creates pathways of constructive dialogue and conflict resolution through consensus building activities of mediation, facilitation and education. At this special event, Concord Mediation Center will present two awards to deserving community members.

The "Pathways Award” is intended to honor those who have courageously opened their minds and hearts to processes of conflict resolution involving healing, forgiveness, empathy, open communication and/or the ability to bring disparate communities together for the betterment of all. This year’s Pathways Award recipient is Omaha World-Herald columnist Mike Kelly. Through his column, Kelly has demonstrated these qualities, whether he is writing about his own life and how he and his daughter overcame her tragic experience or when sharing the stories of other people in the community who prevailed against adversity and now serve as role models for others.

The inaugural "Ron Volkmer Practitioner Award” honors practitioners who apply the Concord Mediation Center’s mission to their professional or volunteer conflict resolution efforts. This award is named for, and will be presented to, Ronald R. Volkmer, Professor of Law at Creighton University, a long-time board member and supporter of Concord Mediation Center. Through his professional work, mediation services and exemplary board membership, Volkmer has demonstrated these qualities, and deserves the distinction of this award named in his honor.

For ticket information, contact Concord Mediation Center at 402-345-1131 or send an email to: contact@concord-center.com.

###

Conflict happens. When individuals cannot agree, relationships suffer. When co-workers won’t cooperate, productivity plummets. When strife occurs in the community, progress stalls. Mediation enables parties to enter a dialogue that is focused and productive. Mediation provides a process for positive change by diffusing emotions and exploring options in order to resolve conflict.

Since 1999, Concord Mediation Center has provided exceptional service in mediation, facilitation and training in conflict resolution in Douglas and Sarpy counties. Concord Mediation Center is the only mediation center approved by the Nebraska Supreme Court’s Office of Dispute Resolution for Douglas and Sarpy Counties.

Concord Mediation Center is located at 4225 North 90th Street in Omaha, Nebraska. The office phone number is 402-345-1131 and the website is www.concordmediationcenter.com.
